A Call to Live God's Word Today
by Rev. Chris Santos

Deuteronomy 6:1- 25

" How can Jesus be in my heart and at the same be in heaven?" My inquisitive and articulate seven year old son C.J. once asked me. As Christian parents, religious education are not to be totally delegated to Sunday School or other caregivers handling the child. Teaching the Word of God and modelling to our children how to practice it are the sole responsibilities of us parents. How can we inculcate God's Word if the Word is not in us? That is why God calls us to live His Word today.

God is calling His people. He has given His call to obedience. God exhorted the Israelites then, and His believers now to carefully observe His Word. We, His people are asked to keep, obey and do what is right. Deut. 5:32-33 says, " So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you." God calls for urgency. His call is today.

Why do we need to heed God's Word? It is a declaration of our loyalty to God. To be loyal to God is to fear and honor Him. . ."so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God..."Deuteronomy 6:2; to confess Him. . . ."Hear O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!"...Deuteronomy 6:4; to love Him. . . "And you shall love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." Deuteronomy 6:5) ; to remember Him "...then watch yourself, lest you forget the Lord wo brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." Deuteronomy 6:12 and to serve Him. . . "You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name." Deuteronomy 6:13.

Why should we heed God's Word today? Because it is a declaration of our duty to God. What is our duty? It is to confess it with our mouth. It is to treasure it in our hearts. It is too teach it to our loved ones.

What are the blessings when we heed God's Word today? He will give as long life (2 Proverbs); He will increase us greatly (3,11); He will give us success (18-19); He will bless our children(20-24)and He will always be with us (250.

So today let us not tarry in living out God's Word.
